Clearwater City

Located in Pinellas County, in Florida’s Gulf Coast just north of St. Petersburg and across the bay from Tampa, Clearwater City bustles with energy. The present-day city used to be the home of the Tocobagas. The Tocobaga Indians opted to dwell in small villages at the northern end of Tampa Bay from 900 to the 1500s.

The name “Clear Water” is believed to have originated from a fresh water spring flowing from near the present spot of the City Hall building. Clearwater was incorporated in 1891. Clearwater is the smallest of the three principal cities in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, or the Tampa Bay Area. The city presently has a balanced, strengthening economy, spurred by a business-friendly climate. While the heart of the city throbs with life and is full of shops and places to go to, Clearwater, Florida so happens to be one of the few places that offers people the opportunity to come close to large aquatic animals like the manatees.

It is also where the Phillies have their spring training games.

Clearwater has attractive downtown areas. Amidst a generally pleasant climate, visitors love seeing the historic buildings, arts and museums in the city, or taking part in any of the special events held in the place. Cleveland Street is one of the city’s historic avenues. Not that many people know that Clearwater is the global spiritual headquarters for the Church of Scientology.

Though the city is separated by the Intracoastal Waterway from Clearwater Beach, Clearwater has its distinct identity. The artist-friendly city draws people who like watching musical events.
