A railroad was established in 1902 which helped speed up the city’s progress allowing constant supply of building materials for the contractors.

The initial settlers involved in shipping and yachting explored the captivating Manatee River drawing people to settle down and enjoy the perfect sunny climate. Couples building young families appreciated the fertile ground to farm as a source of their income and established new communities. In 1897, the charter declaring Palmetto as a city in Florida was signed by the governor.

Soon enough, the region garnered a good standing due to its abundant harvest and residents’ hospitality. The contemporary railroads, new highways, international seaports and airports made the Palmetto City as Florida’s most sought after place to settle down. Increased population in Palmetto lead to a progressive marketplace and work force, with nine universities located within the city’s radius. There are numerous renowned city attractions, restaurants, novelty shops, golf course, RV Park and camp grounds, museums and soft sandy beaches to appreciate. The metro area has TV broadcasting stations that serve the Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Sarasota (DMA).

With its superlative weather conditions, Palmetto became a brilliant vacation destination considering the exceptional food and facilities being offered alongside an extensive array of recreational activities. Most activities involve water sports and fishing at the Green Bridge Fishing Pier which is available anytime. For those who like riding horses, visit the Schomburg Farms to appreciate the beauty of nature.
