Siesta Key was formerly a barrier island with no occupants off the Sarasota coast until the early part of 20th century. It was previously known as Clam Island, then Little Sarasota Island or Sarasota key which was not even a tourist destination. Today, Siesta Key is famous for its beaches and well-developed community.

Siesta Key boasts of three superb beaches on this 8-mile tract where the world’s finest white sand may be explored along the Gulf of Mexico. These beaches are Siesta Beach, Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach each offering diverse beach experiences though sharing same captive view of the sunrise and sunsets, azure gulf waters and sea breeze to marvel at.


Playful dolphins appear once in a while for the visitors to enjoy while boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling or parasailing. Be awed at the glittery sand with the marvelous view while enjoying the privacy of this secluded getaway. These beaches have shallow waters near the shoreline plus lifeguards available all year round. Siesta Key beach offers a lot of extras including volleyball courts, tennis courts, playground equipment, soccer field, and 20 station fitness trails.
